Experience From Haven to Home with your family, peers or associates.

Book your group tour or summer meeting through the Jewish Historical Society and a docent trained by the JHS of MI will guide you through /From Haven to Home/ adding important local and Jewish insights. Group Tours

Group tours with a JHS docent are $4 per person.

Transportation is additional and can be arranged by the JHS of MI or by your group coordinator. Recommended group size is six persons or above. If using a bus, optimum size is 30 persons or more.

Meetings

The Detroit Historical Museum has several meeting facilities including a board room that can accommodate up to 20, a larger room for 50 and an auditorium that accommodates 125. If you are interested in combining a meeting with a tour of From Haven to Home, please contact the Jewish Historical Society (see below).

Bus Tours/From Haven to Home

Combine your trip to the Detroit Historical Museum with the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan's award-winning tour, Settlers to Citizens: the Jews of Detroit and Michigan. Shortened versions of this tour combined with the From Haven to Home exhibit are available by contacting the JHS of MI. Each combined tour/museum trip will be approximately 2.5 hours plus travel time to and from your original departure location. Prices vary based on size of group and transportation requirements.

Tour 1: Early Detroit

From the site of the first Jewish religious service in Detroit, along the Detroit Riverfront to see the newest Jewish historical marker depicting the landing of Chapman Abraham, the first Jewish resident of Detroit and the contributions of Jews to the Civil War, this tour also passes by Albert Kahn's masterpiece, Temple Beth El; past Comerica Park to see the Hank Greenberg Statue, and survey midtown Detroit along Ferry Street.

Tour 2: Center City

"The old neighborhood" is fondly remembered by today's elder generation: Oakland, Linwood, 12^th Street and Dexter. This tour will travel the Northern and Central High School neighborhoods and enjoy views of the Shvitz along with the old B'nai Moshe and Shaarey Zedek.

Tour 3: Northwest Detroit

The spectacular homes in Palmer Park depict an era of glamour and community much forgotten. This tour showcases Detroit's Jewish community of the 1940s through 1960s with a trip past Mumford High School, homes in the Boston Edison District of Detroit, Temple Israel and Adat Shalom.
