Abraham Zuse Atlavaick was born in Russia in 1860. Here he learned to be a blacksmith and later served in the Russian Army. He immigrated to Detroit with his family in 1892 where he opened a blacksmith shop and became a non-commissioned Deputy Policeman; at the time the only person within the Jewish community to hold such a position. He achieved great fame within Detroit for stories of his great strength as well as co-founding the B’nai David synagogue. His legacy lives on at the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan.
